PEI postpones March Expression of Interest drawCOVID-19 delaying the regularly scheduled March 19 draw
Prince Edward Island will not be issuing invitations for immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination.
The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) is rescheduling the March 19 Expression of Interest (EOI) draw. Their office is closed as a result of COVID-19, according to their website.
They did not give a new date for this draw, however, the next scheduled EOI draw is set for April 16.
PEI holds about one provincial nomination invitation round per month. Draws take place on an anticipated schedule. This year PEI has issued 276 invitations from draws in January and February.
The monthly draw information typically includes results from the following three PEI PNP categories:
PEI Express Entry candidates
The PEI PNP’s Express Entry Category is aligned with the Canadian government’s Express Entry System, which manages the applications for three economic class immigration categories: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class.
Express Entry candidates create profiles that are put into a pool and are given a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for human capital factors such as age, work experience, education, and official language proficiency.
Express Entry candidates who receive a provincial nomination are given an additional 600 points toward their CRS score and are effectively guaranteed an Invitation to Apply (ITA) from the Government of Canada in a subsequent Express Entry draw.
In order to be considered for a provincial nomination from PEI, Express Entry candidates need to create an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile with the PEI PNP.
Labour Impact Category
The Labour Impact Category is for foreign nationals who have a valid job offer in PEI, and have support from their employer. It is divided into three streams: Skilled Worker, Critical Worker, and International Graduate.
Candidates in this category must also submit an EOI profile in order to be considered for a provincial nomination.
Business Impact Category
PEI issues work permits to certain entrepreneurs who submit an EOI profile under the Work Permit Stream.
Eligible candidates must demonstrate that they intend to own and operate a business in PEI.
Those who are selected under this stream have to meet a set EOI score requirement that is determined for each draw.
