The National Skills Commission (NSC) has delivered the 2021 Skills Priority List (SPL) that provides a detailed view of current shortages as well as the future demand for occupations across Australia.
The SPL list contains 799 ANZSCO occupations and provides two indicators:
1. Current Labour Market indicator (available nationally and for each state and territory):
- Shortage (S): Shortages exist when employers are unable to fill or have considerable difficulty filling vacancies for an occupation, or significant specialized skill needs within that occupation, at current levels of remuneration and conditions of employment, and in reasonably accessible locations.
- Metropolitan Shortage (M): Shortages are restricted to metropolitan areas.
- Regional Shortage (R): Shortages are restricted to regional areas.
- No Shortage (NS): Research has not identified any significant difficulty filling vacancies.
2. Future Demand indicator (Strong, Moderate or Soft): indicates the likely demand for the occupation over the coming five year period.
The SPL list will be reviewed and updated annually.
