Agribusiness Investment Delegation – Beef Australia 2018 – Business & Skilled Migration Queensland (BSQM)

BSMQ hosted a delegation from China, Taiwan, and Vietnam in various locations in Queensland from 8 to 15 May 2018 to showcase the investment opportunities in Queensland’s agricultural industry, particularly in beef and horticulture. There were 22 delegates comprising of migration agents, business migrants and investors.

The program kicked off in BSMQ’s head office in Brisbane with a welcome briefing, along with networking with Queensland business representatives. Presenters included the Trade and Investment Food and Agribusiness team, Meat & Lifestock Australia (MLA)Queensland Department of Agriculture & Fisheries (DAF)Ernest & YoungLandmark Consulting Group Pty Ltd and BSMQ.

The delegation then flew to Rockhampton to spend three days at Australia’s national beef expo, Beef Australia. The delegates were warmly welcomed by the Hon. Annastacia Palaszczuk MP, Premier of Queensland and Minister for Trade, at the International Welcome Reception. With the assistance from BSMQ and TIQ regional staff, the delegates were introduced to many of the Queensland beef and cattle suppliers and exporters at the beef expo. They also attended a luncheon reception hosted by the Rockhampton Regional Council and visited various sites in Rockhampton, including the CBD area, port, and a number of farms. This introduced the delegates to investment opportunities in beef and cattle export, fruit and grain export, poultry farm expansion and even hotel redevelopment in Rockhampton.

After Beef Australia, around a dozen of the delegates travelled north to Mackay and Airlie Beach. The program included visits to four cattle farms and introductions to the Mackay and Whitsunday Regional Councils. This gave a key insight into industries and opportunities available in Central Queensland.

The last day in Central Queensland concluded in Airlie Beach with a day cruise at the Great Barrier Reef, which was a great experience at one of Queensland’s best tourist destinations.
